Wreaths, like Christmas trees, are a part of the ancient tradition of bringing evergreens indoors during winter. They were thought to hold mystical powers because they continued to flourish in the cold while other trees stood bare. Bringing evergreens indoors is done in hopes of a fruitful New Year.
